Daily Sunnahs of Waking Up

Sunnah is such an action through which we attain success in both this world and the Hereafter, because Sunnah is the way of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). Whatever actions the Prophet (S.A.W) performed in his life, all of them are called Sunnah. Now, if we talk about Sunnah, it can be followed throughout the 24 hours of daily life. Many people among us ask how we can live according to Sunnah in a 24-hour routine—sleeping, waking up, walking, moving around, and all other activities. The answer to this is that the Prophet (S.A.W) explained the correct way of doing everything and also practiced it himself: how to sleep, how to wake up, how to walk, and how to move about.”

Daily Morning Dua

“First of all, it is necessary to talk about reciting the morning supplication (dua) after waking up. Waking up and reciting the morning dua is the very first Sunnah of the day. If a person, after waking up, recites the dua instead of immediately checking their mobile phone, it is much better. Many people among us do not get proper sleep at night due to stress and worries about business. And if they manage to sleep for a short while, the first thing they do after waking up is check how much loss or profit they had. Whereas all of this is temporary. The most important thing is to wake up and first recite the morning dua, then offer Salah and recite the Quran. After that, one should look into worldly matters. Insha’Allah, Allah will grant us success in both this world and the Hereafter.”

Cleaning the Mouth (wadu)

“Secondly, after talking about supplication upon waking up in the morning, the next important act is performing wudu (ablution). Wudu is such an act that refreshes a person both physically and mentally. Washing the face, hands, and feet are all Sunnahs of the Prophet ﷺ, which he practiced himself and also taught us. Washing the face properly so that no dirt or signs of laziness remain visible is important. One should personally take care of this practice and also encourage children to observe it regularly.”

Starting Day With Bismillah

“Thirdly, another very important Sunnah of the morning is to start the day with Bismillah. Whatever task you begin, start it with Bismillah. Reciting Bismillah while performing wudu is also a Sunnah. By reciting Bismillah, we receive many benefits that we ourselves may not even realize. Allah Almighty has commanded that whatever work you do, do it for His pleasure and begin it with His name. The benefits of reciting Bismillah are as follows:

  • Reciting Bismillah makes the task you want to do easier.
  • The help of Allah Almighty is attained, and the work becomes easy.
  • Shaytan cannot overpower us, and we are granted protection from him.
  • A person’s heart becomes inclined toward doing more good deeds.

Positive Intension in doing Everything

Finally, one of the most important and essential morning Sunnahs is having a positive intention. Whatever work we do and whoever we meet, our intention toward them should be positive. The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said that the person who wakes up in the morning and looks at his parents with love is granted the reward of Hajj and Umrah by Allah. Therefore, whatever we do should be done with a positive intention, and whatever we think should also be positive. Having negative thoughts come to the mind is common for a person, but the easiest way to remove them is to recite Bismillah. Before harming anyone during the day, evening, or night, we should think that we have promised ourselves that we will not harm anyone. InshaAllah, we will be protected from many sins. Be regular in offering prayers and pray with the intention that Allah saves us from Hell and admits us into Paradise. Make du‘as according to the Sunnah. We have discussed this topic in detail in this post:

May Allah grant us the ability to act upon it and to convey it to others.”
