How Beginner Quran Students Learn Quran Correctly

In today’s topic, we will discuss how to encourage students toward Islamic learning. Children often hesitate to learn something new, sometimes due to fear or lack of understanding. The best approach is to explain with kindness, sit close to them, talk openly, and teach through simple stories they can relate to. This method creates interest, motivation, and a positive attitude toward Islamic learning.

How to start Norani Qaida

As we discussed earlier, before learning to read the Holy Quran, it is essential for children to understand each word properly, which is why Norani Qaida is taught first. The correct method of teaching Norani Qaida begins with explaining its meaning, importance, and how it helps in reading the Quran correctly. Children should be taught each concept like a simple story, and whatever they learn should be revised by asking them to read it back, so their foundation becomes stronger over time. Some words in Norani Qaida are similar in sound and tone, so these require extra focus and practice.

Easy Way to Learn Norani Qaida

Noorani Qaida is the first and most important step before reading the Holy Quran, so it should be learned properly and with full attention.

  • Start from lesson number 1, where single Arabic letters are taught and you learn how to pronounce each letter correctly.
  • In Noorani Qaida, there are different lessons (takhtiyan). These teach how to read letters when they are joined and when they are separate, so every lesson should be learned carefully.
  • Ghunna, Madd, Ikhfa, and Qalqala are basic Tajweed rules. These are very important because many other rules depend on them, so never skip these lessons.
  • Learn Noorani Qaida from beginning to end. Do not skip any part. After completing it properly, InshaAllah you will be able to read the Holy Quran with correct Tajweed and fluency.

Basic Tajweed Rules

Tajweed refers to the rules that ensure the Quran is recited correctly, and it includes principles such as Qalqalah, Ikhfa, Ghunna, and several other rules. These rules were not invented by anyone; they were simply categorized to make learning easier. We teach these rules to children so they can understand how each letter and sound should be pronounced. Reciting the Quran without understanding Tajweed is against the proper method of Quran recitation, which is why learning and understanding Tajweed is extremely important.

Why do we make mistakes in Tajweed

Tajweed means reciting the Holy Quran correctly by pronouncing every single letter with its proper zabar, zer, pesh, and according to all the established rules. In the Quran, no rule of Tajweed can ever be compromised. Below are some reasons why we make mistakes while learning Tajweed:

  • The rule of the Quran is that it should be recited exactly the way it was revealed and written.
  • The Quran is in the Arabic language, so if someone belongs to a different native language, mistakes can happen while learning.
  • If we do not learn the Quran from a qualified and good teacher, our Tajweed will not be correct.
  • Trying to recite the Quran too quickly without understanding or proper practice also causes Tajweed mistakes. There are two types of mistakes in Tajweed:

Lahn Jali: refers to clear and major mistakes that completely change the meaning of Quranic words, such as mispronouncing a vowel or replacing one letter with another. If such mistakes occur in Salah, the prayer can become invalid.

Lahn Khafi: refers to subtle mistakes that are not easily noticeable, such as not performing proper ghunnah or not pronouncing a letter correctly. These mistakes are usually recognized immediately by expert teachers.

How Can We Correct Our Tajweed

  • Recite the Holy Quran daily and properly learn every rule and makhraj (point of articulation) of each letter.
  • Learn from a qualified and expert teacher so your Tajweed can improve correctly.
  • Recite the Quran slowly, calmly, and softly instead of rushing.
  • Focus daily on improving your makharij, so your Tajweed becomes accurate and complete.

Daily Revision Techniques

Daily revision techniques are extremely important. Just as in worldly studies, a child revises one chapter each day, similarly, revising one Tajweed rule or one page of the Quran daily is more effective than giving children too much at once, which only burdens them and prevents proper memorization. It is better to sit with them, explain calmly, and then reward them occasionally—not every day—so they learn for the gifts not sake of deen. These techniques help children complete the Norani Qaida and Quran reading smoothly and correctly, without mistakes.

Best Ways For Daily Revision of The Quran

Reading and revising the Holy Quran daily helps improve Tajweed and fluency. If you follow these simple steps regularly, reading will become easier and more beautiful.

  • As a beginner, try to recite at least 1 page daily. Regular practice is the key to improvement.
  • While learning Tajweed and fluency, even if you read only half a Sipara daily, there is no problem. Correct pronunciation and smooth reading are more important than speed.
  • Revise what you learned the previous day, and try to learn one new Tajweed rule daily. This makes your learning strong and organized.
  • Read in front of someone who knows Tajweed properly, and ask them to correct your mistakes. Then work on improving those mistakes.

InshaAllah, if we follow these four steps daily, reading the Holy Quran will become easier and more fluent for us.

A Message For Parents

This is a message for parents: please act upon these guidelines, because InshaAllah your children will benefit from them and consider it a precious gift from you. After you leave this world, their duas will become a source of peace, comfort, and Jannah for you. We hope that, for the sake of Allah’s pleasure, you will surely raise your children to become callers and followers of Deen.
